February Meeting Topic:
This meeting will focus on the general education bus and supporting students who ride general education routes but may have EBD, Autism, or ADHD. We’ll discuss practical strategies to help create a safe and successful ride, including behavior management and de-escalation techniques.

Childhood Trauma, with guest speakers from District 287

Special Guest Speaker: Jenna Nesler & Jamie Anderson

We are concluding this series on working with student behaviors on both special transportation and general education buses with a session on childhood trauma—how it may contribute to student behaviors, how to recognize the signs, and how to effectively support students who have experienced trauma. While trauma itself is not new, our understanding continues to grow, and it is important that we educate ourselves to better support not only students, but also parents and co-workers who may be affected.

The April topic is school bus evacuation and emergency planning. We are required to conduct evacuation training with students, and drivers must have an emergency plan in place.

The May topic is an intruder on the bus, including unauthorized individuals while en route or at a school. MSBOA previously had a video on this topic; please let me know if it would be helpful to research that resource. I will again survey the membership for specific questions.
